TeamViewer Tutorial: How to Use TeamViewer for Remote Access

TeamViewer is a popular remote desktop and file-sharing tool that allows users to connect and control another computer or mobile device remotely. This tutorial will guide you through the setup and use of TeamViewer for remote access.


Step 1: Download and Install TeamViewer

Step 3: Connect to Another Computer

To control another computer, you need the ID and Password of that device.

  1. Enter the Partner’s ID:
    • In the Control Remote Computer section on the right side of the TeamViewer window, enter the Partner ID (the ID of the device you want to connect to).
  2. Choose Connection Type:
    • Below the ID field, choose Remote Control if you want to control the remote device, or File Transfer if you only need to transfer files.
  3. Connect:
    • Click Connect. TeamViewer will prompt you for the partner’s password.
  4. Enter the Password:
    • Enter the password provided by the remote computer user and click Log On.
  5. Control the Remote Computer:
    • Once connected, you can now control the remote computer as if you were sitting in front of it.

Step 4: Unattended Remote Access Setup

If you need to access a remote computer without someone being physically present, you can set up unattended access.

  1. Enable Unattended Access:
    • In TeamViewer, click on Extras in the menu bar, then select Options.
    • Under the Security tab, set a personal password. This password will allow you to access the computer anytime.
  2. Set a TeamViewer Account:
    • Click Grant easy access and sign in with your TeamViewer account.
    • This will allow you to access this computer remotely without needing the ID and password every time.
  3. Access the Computer Remotely:
    • From another device, open TeamViewer, sign in to your account, and select the computer from the list of available devices to access it without inputting an ID or password.

Step 5: File Transfer Between Computers

TeamViewer allows easy file transfer between connected computers.

  1. Select File Transfer Mode:
    • Instead of Remote Control, choose File Transfer in the main interface.
    • Enter the partner’s ID and password, then click Connect.
  2. Use the File Transfer Window:
    • After connecting, a file manager window will appear, showing the local and remote computers side by side.
    • You can navigate the file systems of both computers and drag-and-drop files between them.

Step 6: Using TeamViewer on Mobile Devices

  1. Download TeamViewer App:
    • Go to your device’s app store (Google Play for Android or App Store for iOS) and download the TeamViewer app.
  2. Connect from Mobile:
    • Open the app, and sign in with your TeamViewer account.
    • You can either scan the QR code on the remote computer or enter the Partner ID to connect.
  3. Control Computers from Mobile:
    • Once connected, you can control the computer using touch gestures like tapping and dragging to navigate the desktop.

Step 7: Advanced Features of TeamViewer

  1. Session Recording:
    • While in a session, you can record your activity by going to Files & Extras in the toolbar and choosing Start Session Recording.
  2. Chat and Audio:
    • You can communicate with the person on the other end through the Chat window or use the Voice over IP (VoIP) feature for voice communication.
  3. Remote Printing:
    • To print a document remotely, select Files & Extras > Remote Printing during a session. The file will be sent to your local printer.
  4. Multi-Monitor Support:
    • If the remote computer has multiple monitors, you can switch between them by clicking on the monitor icon in the toolbar during the remote session.

Step 8: Disconnecting and Closing the Session

  1. End a Session:
    • When you’re done with the remote session, click X on the remote control toolbar, or simply close the TeamViewer window.
  2. Close TeamViewer:
    • You can exit the application by right-clicking the TeamViewer icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen) and selecting Exit TeamViewer.

Security Considerations

  1. Password Protection:
