WinRAR is a popular file archiver and data compression utility that allows you to compress files into .RAR or .ZIP formats, as well as extract files from compressed archives. This tutorial will guide you through installing and using WinRAR for basic operations such as compressing and extracting files.


Part 1: Installing WinRAR

Step 1: Download WinRAR

  • Archive format: Choose between RAR or ZIP formats.
  • Compression method: Select the level of compression (e.g., Store for no compression, Best for maximum compression).
  • Split to volumes: This option allows you to split the archive into multiple parts (useful for large files).
  • Password protection: Set a password to encrypt and protect the contents of the archive.

Part 3: Extracting Files Using WinRAR

Step 1: Locate the Compressed Archive

  1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the compressed archive (RAR, ZIP, or other supported formats).

    • Extract Here: This extracts all files to the current folder.

  • Password: If the archive is password-protected, you will be prompted to enter the password before extracting.

Click OK to begin extracting the files.

Step 1: Create a Password-Protected Archive

  1. Select the files or folders you want to compress, right-click, and choose Add to archive….
  2. In the Set password field (under the Advanced tab in the archive options window), enter your password and confirm it.
  3. Click OK to start the compression.

Step 2: Extracting Password-Protected Archives

  1. When you attempt to extract a password-protected archive, WinRAR will prompt you to enter the password.
  2. After entering the correct password, the extraction will begin.

  1. Right-click on the file or folder you want to compress and select Add to archive….

To extract a multi-part archive, make sure all parts are in the same directory, then:
